| The Roman god Janus presided over transitions, all beginnings and ends, and kept the gates of his temple open in times of war and closed during peace. As the days run snowballing toward the end of another year, almost instinctively we face that threshold between ends and beginnings, a perhaps nostalgic look at the past and a hopeful one into the future.
Our College ends another year in which the key to success, as always, is measured by the enthusiasm of our volunteers. Carrying in our thoughts the enlightenment of unprecedented progress in our field, we of course need to balance the complexities of our practices with the ever-growing pressure in the medical system. New challenges ask for renewed flexibility and creative solutions! Your tireless work in committees and working groups helps the board in the decisions we are making and guides the community in the documents you are creating. Thank you!
The exam reform has dominated this year as the main fundamental change that will shape the future of our discipline, leading us through an important transition in the near future. Next year marks the last exam cycle in the old format. Recruiting new trainees while struggling for funding, unfortunately remains a pressure point in every training centre. This needs to continue to be a focus as the trainees are a gauge of the health of our discipline.
We are working in closing the books of our last annual conference in Banff. After a decade, we met at the foothills of the Rockies jointly with our colleagues from the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselling (CAGC) in a sold-out event. The membership participation increased by 38% relative to the previous year, with a slight increase for the trainees. An upward trend was registered by our sponsorship. On the echo of this event, we are planning a more consistent interaction with CAGC and growing that relationship.

As we step into our anniversary year celebrating the first half of a century for our college, we are preparing to return to Quebec for the annual gathering, joining this time the colleagues from the Garrod Association. We hope to see many of you in the picturesque surroundings of Bromont, QC!
Until then, and with the Holiday Season near, gift yourselves with a time of serene reflection and joy in the company of your colleagues, family and friends, keeping safe and healthy, proud of your accomplishments and hopeful in your plans with a positive outcome for any new undertakings! Be that the only closed doors are those for peace in the temple of Janus while we keep our minds and hearts open for a bright shared future at CCMG!
