CLINICAL MOLECULAR CYTOGENETICIST
Shared Health is seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join its Genomics discipline of Diagnostic Services as a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist (1.0 EFT). Reporting to the Genomics Medical Director, the ideal candidate will be willing to work independently and in team settings, and have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. A strong background in molecular genetics and cytogenetics as well as genome-based testing including microarray and next generation sequencing is required. This individual is expected to provide technical oversight and case interpretation, to ensure compliance with lab accreditation requirements, to develop and validate new tests and policies and procedures, and to consult with physicians and other healthcare providers.
This candidate will join a team of Cytogeneticists, Molecular Geneticists and Molecular Pathologists located at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre that collectively ensures the province-wide delivery of a diverse menu of genetic and genomic-based tests for pediatric and adult patients suspected to have a constitutional or inherited genetic disorder, prenatal diagnosis, and for oncology patients diagnosed with hematological or solid tumours. Academic responsibilities will include holding a cross-appointment at the University of Manitoba, teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students, residents including our CCMG post-doctoral training program, and other staff, and developing/participating in collaborative or independent research initiatives, depending on interest.
Candidates must have a PhD and be Fellows of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticist (FCCMG) and eligible for certification in both Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics OR the new Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics. Individuals with similar certification from the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (DABMGG) will also be considered.
