BC Cancer is seeking a Medical Geneticist to join our Provincial Hereditary Cancer Program. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in cancer care, working alongside a team committed to excellence in clinical services, education, and research.
As a Medical Geneticist in the Hereditary Cancer Program, you will:
- Provide direct care through medical assessments (either in person or over the phone) and offer clinical diagnoses, even for cases where no genetic mutation is found.
- Offer indirect care by supervising genetic counselors on what tests to order, advising on specialty testing, management recommendations and signing out letters.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team, offering both in-person and virtual consultations across BC and the Yukon to provide a comprehensive treatment plan.
- Offer indirect care by consulting with medical doctors (MDs) on what tests to order and advising on specialty testing.
- Manage a caseload of up to 5 patients per week (with 1 patient per 0.25 FTE), ensuring both flexibility and quality care under a 1.0 FTE schedule.
- Engage in clinical research and contribute to advancing genetic medicine in the context of hereditary cancers.
- Participate in Clinical Academic teaching and contribute to clinical guidelines development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care.
- Review patient charts, order tests, and ensure documentation is complete.
- Collaborate with genetic counsellors and other medical professionals.
- Contribute to program development and quality assurance.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
- Certification: Eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Medical Genetics.
- Additional training in cancer genetics or related fields is an asset.
- Academic Appointment: Clinical faculty position at the University of British Columbia, with academic rank based on qualifications.
