Clinical Faculty Position, Medical Genetics

The Division of Medical Genetics, in the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) academic position as a Metabolic Geneticist at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level.. This individual will join a team of 6 Medical Geneticists, 16 Genetic Counsellors, 3 Metabolic Nurses and a Metabolic Dietician. The academic physician will provide clinical service and participate in teaching and/or research in an academic environment.
The Division of Medical Genetics, in the Department of Paediatrics, is located in the IWK Hospital, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We provide genetic consultation and care to the Maritime Provinces with a population of 1.9 million people. We deliver comprehensive coverage of Cancer, Prenatal, Pediatric, Adult and Metabolic genetics. We have the strong support of Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, and Metabolic laboratory services, all on site. We have strong collaborations with Pediatrics, Neonatology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and with Adult and Paediatric Cardiology, Oncology, Ophthalmology and Neurology services. We provide Medical Genetics teaching to students in undergraduate biology, medical school at all levels, and to medical residents and fellows from a variety of specialities. We have an organized research team with close collaborations with Dalhousie PhD scientists and clinicians in other disciplines performing human genetics research. Genetics research is a priority at Dalhousie University, receiving Wave 1 status from the Faculty of Medicine.
Academic qualifications include an MD (or equivalent) from an accredited university with certification in Medical Genetics (FRCPC, FCCMG) or equivalent. Priority will be given to those meeting required qualifications who in addition have a CCMG Biochemical Genetics Fellowship. Eligibility for licensure in Nova Scotia is essential. Compensation and academic appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
