The 2026 inaugural joint meeting between the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) and the Garrod Association will provide a national forum on genetic disorders with an emphasis on inborn errors of metabolism. It will foster collaboration among the metabolic and genetics communities, including physicians, nurses, dieticians, genetic counsellors, other allied health professionals, laboratory geneticists, laboratory staff, researchers, trainees, patient advocacy groups and industry partners. The programme will include a keynote symposium, invited speakers, oral and poster presentations from submitted abstracts, and interactive sessions, exploring innovation in diagnostics and established and emerging therapeutic strategies.
Objectives:
At the end of this year’s meeting, participants will be able to:
- Describe recent advances in biochemical and molecular genetic approaches to screening, diagnosis and therapy from the perspective of the last half century of genetics in Canada.
- Assess their readiness for evolving standards in genetic medicine.
- Reflect on how their current practices and programs can be strengthened through partnerships with patient advocacy groups, industry and organizations including the CCMG and Garrod Association.
