Dr. Gregory Costain (MD, PhD, FRCPC)

Dr. Gregory Costain is a medical geneticist and scientist affiliated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and University of Toronto.

Dr. Paula Waters (PhD, FCCMG)

I have worked in the field of biochemical genetics for over 30 years, in both research and clinical laboratory settings. I am currently the scientific director of the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory, within the Medical Genetics Service at Sherbrooke’s University Hospital Centre (CHUS). I am also an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Université de Sherbrooke and an associate researcher of the CRCHUS (Centre de recherche du centre hospitalier de Sherbrooke). My primary role is to provide high-quality clinical laboratory service, including specialised diagnostic investigations and monitoring for patients with inherited metabolic disorders. I am also active in various collaborative research projects related to diverse inborn errors of metabolism, contribute to teaching of students, residents and fellows, and participate actively in several professional societies, including the CCMG and the Garrod Association.

Dr. Oana Caluseriu (MD, FRCPC, FCCMG)

Dr. Oana Caluseriu is a medical geneticist with Alberta Health Services practicing prenatal and pediatric genetics and an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Alberta. As a clinician scientist, she focuses on rare disorders characterization, leading initiatives like the Translational Genomics Hub (Translational Genomics Hub – WCHRI). She currently serves as the President of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists, and Section Chief Medical Genetics, Edmonton Zone.

Dr. Sarah Dyack (MD, FRCPC, FCCMG)

Dr. Sarah Dyack is a Medical Geneticist practicing both Clinical and Biochemical Genetics in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She received a BSc in Biology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1990 and then graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 1994. She then completed her Pediatrics residency at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta in 1998 and then completed a CCMG Fellowship in Clinical Genetics at Sickkids and the University of Toronto. In 2000 she began her career as a Medical Geneticist at the IWK Health Centre. She is currently a Professor of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and is Vice President/President Elect of the Garrod Association. Her academic interests include gene discovery, biochemical genetic disorders, and newborn screening.

Dr. Ronald Agatep (PhD, FCCMG)

Ron Agatep is a Clinical Molecular Geneticist in the Genomics Discipline, Diagnostic Services, Shared Health Manitoba. He completed his doctoral and Clinical Molecular Genetics training at the University of Toronto. He is actively involved in teaching and training of RCPSC residents and CCMG laboratory trainees in the Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics program at the University of Manitoba. Ron has served as the Program Director for CCMG Genetics fellowship training at McGill University and the University of Manitoba as well as various CCMG committees including the Ethics and Public Policy Committee and Examinations Committees.

Dr. Natascia Anastasio (MSc, MDCM, FRCPC, FCCMG)

Dr. Anastasio is a clinical and laboratory geneticist at the Sherbrooke University hospital in Quebec, Canada. Following her Medical Genetics residency at McGill University, she pursued a fellowship in Laboratory Molecular Genetics in both Boston (The Laboratory for Molecular Medicine, Mass General Brigham Personalized Medicine) and Montreal (McGill University). She began practicing in 2021 and splits her time between clinical and laboratory work. Since October 2025, she is the chief of the Medical Genetics Service, Clinical and Laboratory sectors.

Dr. Heleen Arts (FCCMG, PhD)

Dr. Heleen Arts is a laboratory scientist and interprets and reports clinical genome diagnostic results of a wide range of hereditary disorders. She is interested in molecular genetics of rare disorders, particularly ciliopathies, ranging from isolated renal disease to perinatal lethal syndromes that affect development throughout the body.

Dr. Susan Crocker (FCMMG, FACMG)

Susan Crocker, PhD, FCCMG, FACMG, is a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and Division Head of Clinical Genomics at the IWK Maritime Centre of Precision Medicine in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is a certified cytogeneticist and molecular geneticist with broad expertise in clinical genomics, including constitutional and acquired genetic disorders. She has contributed to national and institutional committees focused on best practices in clinical laboratory genomics, including applications in hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, and neurogenomics. Her professional interests include improving diagnostic and prognostic testing and advancing the clinical integration of genomic technologies.

Geneviève Lafrance (RD, metabolic dietitian)

A dietitian in the Department of Genetics at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS, she specializes in the nutritional management of patients with inherited metabolic disorders requiring dietary restrictions. Her work focuses on improving the quality and variety of diets within these constraints. She is the author of the book Low-Protein Recipes and the founder of Recettesfaiblesenproteines.com. She also leads cooking workshops across Canada to help patients and their families adopt practical and enjoyable low-protein diets.

Dr. Nathalie Lepage (Laboratory Biochemical Geneticist)

Dr. Nathalie Lepage is Professor in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Canada. She is a laboratory biochemical geneticist in the Biochemistry laboratory of Newborn Screening Ontario, a fellow from the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (CACB) and a fellow from the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists. Current areas of clinical and research interests are in method improvement in the field of biochemical genetics disorders, pediatrics laboratory medicine, and laboratory management.

Dr. Bruno Maranda (MD, MSc, FRCPC, FCCMG)

Bruno Maranda, MD MSc, FRCPC, FCCMG. Medical geneticist at CHUS. Within the medical genetics service of the CHUS and Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Université de Sherbrooke. Training in medical genetics at the CME Ste-Justine, Paris and Boston. Clinical practice in general medical genetics with an interest in inborn errors of metabolism. Clinical research focus on storage diseases and inborn errors of metabolism. Basic research focus on the identification of genes responsible for conditions affecting French Canadians.

Dr. Aziz Mhanni (MD, FRCPC, FCCMGG, FACMGG, PhD)

Dr. Ramona Salvarinova (MD, FCCMG, FRCPC)

Dr. Salvarinova is a Clinical Associate Professor, UBC and Interim Division Head, Biochemical Genetics, at BC Children’s Hospital. She has completed her medical training in Europe and her pediatric residency training at the University of Saskatchewan and UBC. She went on to complete fellowship in Clinical Biochemical Genetics with the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists and Masters in Health sciences at UBC. Her areas of interest are diagnosis and treatment of inherited metabolic diseases with focus on innovative therapies for ultra rare diseases.
