Title: Exome Sequencing in Prenatal Diagnosis: Benefits and Pitfalls

This presentation will review the evidence supporting the use of prenatal exome sequencing in the context of a fetal abnormality detected on ultrasound. In addition, the challenges of using exome sequencing in the prenatal setting will be reviewed. Cases will be presented to illustrate the learning objectives.

Learning objectives:

  • Cite the evidence supporting a role of exome sequencing in prenatal diagnosis.
  • Describe the limitations of exome sequencing when used in the prenatal setting.

Speaker: Dr. Sylvie Langlois

Bio

Dr. Sylvie Langlois is a clinical and molecular geneticist with a special interest in prenatal genetics. She is a Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at UBC and co-director of the Residency Training program with Dr. Kate Blood. Her research has focused on the implementation of new technologies in the prenatal field including cell free DNA screening and exome sequencing.
