Brief description
Rapid clinical genomics testing options can provide answers faster, enabling healthcare providers to make important clinical decisions in critical and time-sensitive situations, such as for NICU and PICU patients. This presentation is intended for genetic counsellors who wish to expand their genomic sequencing knowledge base, especially regarding diagnostic yields, the utility of rapid testing options in the NICU settings, detection of CNVs, mosaicism and MEIs from ES/GS data, identification of candidate genes, and the importance of reanalysis.

Dr. Jane Juusola is an ABMGG-certified Clinical Molecular Geneticist. She is the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Senior Director of Clinical Genomics at GeneDx. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology and her PhD in Biomolecular Sciences from the University of Central Florida.

Jane worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the FBI research lab in Quantico for 2 years, after which she joined the Molecular Diagnostics laboratory at the VCU Medical Center as an instructor. While at VCU, Jane completed her clinical training in the Department of Pathology and Department of Human Genetics.

She joined GeneDx in 2012. Dr. Juusola has co-authored >80 articles in molecular and human genetics, including publications on rapid clinical genomic sequencing and identification of novel disease genes.
